Historical fiction is a genre of fiction set in some historical period. They can be set in a recent period, such as World War II or the Civil Rights Movement, or in a long-ago period such as ancient Egypt or Aborigional Australia. Historical fiction stories generally do not have elements such as magic in them, as they are also considered to be realistic fiction.

The plots of historical fiction stories are usually directly related to the event or time period which it takes place in. The most common example of this is a tale from the point of view of a soldier in a conflict such as World War II.

Historical Fiction can be one of the hardest genres to write, as it requires vast amounts of research.
